gEDA

gEDA is a suite of electronic design automation (EDA) tools. Currently, the project offers a mature suite of free software applications for electronics design, including schematic capture, attribute management, bill of materials (BOM) generation, netlisting into over 20 netlist formats, analog and digital simulation, and printed circuit board (PCB) layout.

Qucs

Qucs is a circuit simulator with a graphical user

  1. It aims to support all kinds of

circuit simulation types, including DC, AC, S-parameter, and harmonic balance analysis.

Gnu Circuit Analysis Package

Gnu Circuit Analysis Package is a general purpose circuit simulator. It performs nonlinear DC and transient analysis, fourier analysis, and AC analysis. Spice compatible models for the MOSFET (level 1- 7) and diode are included. This project is not based on Berkeley Spice, but some of the models have been derived from the Berleley models. It was formerly known as 'Al's Circuit Simulator'.

FidoCadJ

FidoCadJ is a very easy-to-use editor, with a library of electrical symbols and footprints (through hole and SMD). Drawings can be exported in several graphic formats (PDF, EPS, PGF for LaTeX, SVG, PNG, and JPEG). Although very simple and not relying on any netlist concept, FidoCadJ can be considered a basic electronic design automation program. FidoCadJ uses a file format containing only UTF-8 text, which is very compact and suited for copying and pasting with newsgroups and forum messages. This determined its success, as it is quite versatile for simple mechanical drawings as well as for electronics.

Electric

Electric is a complete EDA system that can handle many forms of circuit design, including Schematic Capture (digital and analog), Custom IC layout, Logic Simulation, Electro-mechanical hybrid layout, Programmable logic (FPGAs) and much more.

Gerber Viewer

Gerber Viewer is a viewer for Gerber files, also called RS274X. It lets you load several files on top of each other, do measurements on the displayed image, etc. Using Cairo makes it possible to export Postscript and PDF files.

Confluence System Design Language

Confluence is a functional programming language for reactive system design, including FPGAs, ASICs, and hard-real-time software. Confluence system descriptions have a large information to linecount ratio. It is typically two to five times more compact than Verilog. Confluence can compile a single body of source code into to Verilog, VHDL, C, and NuSMV.

Qfsm

Qfsm is a graphical editor for easily drawing finite state machines, written in C++ using Qt. Transitions can have either binary or ASCII conditions. Machines can be simulated and integrity checks applied, enabling verification of proper design and operation.

Signs

Signs is a development environment for hardware designs in various hardware description languages. The tackled tasks are compilation, synthesis, simulation, and testing of designs. Due to the integration of these main areas, it provides the ability to debug designs in an all-embracing manner by switching between source code, netlist, and simulation. Supported languages include VHDL and the ISCAS benchmark format. Signs comes in two flavors: a command-line only version useful for processing and analyzing large netlists and as an Eclipse plugin for hardware design and simulation.

BeRTOS

BeRTOS is a real time operating system (RTOS) suitable for embedded platforms. It runs on many microprocessors and microcontrollers, ranging from 8-bit to 32-bit CPUs and even PCs.

ACL2

ACL2 is a mathematical logic, programming
language, and mechanical theorem prover based on
the applicative subset of Common Lisp. It is an
"industrial-strength" version of the NQTHM or
Boyer/Moore theorem prover, and has been used for
the formal verification of commercial
microprocessors, the Java Virtual Machine,
interesting algorithms, and so forth.

XCircuit

XCircuit is a UNIX/X11 program for drawing publishable-quality electrical circuit schematic diagrams and related figures, and producing circuit netlists through schematic capture. XCircuit regards circuits as inherently hierarchical, and writes both hierarchical PostScript output and hierarchical SPICE netlists. Circuit components are saved in and retrieved from libraries which are fully editable. XCircuit does not separate artistic expression from circuit drawing; it maintains flexiblity in style without compromising the power of schematic capture.

KiCad EDA

KiCad EDA is software for the creation of electronic schematic diagrams and printed circuit board artwork. It is a set of four programs and a project manager: Eeschema (schematic entry), Pcbnew (a board editor), Gerbview (a Gerber viewer (photoplotter documents)), and Cvpcb (a footprint selector for components used in the circuit design). Kicad is the project manager. It includes a 3D visualization feature.
